Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Mary Our Queen would like to assist participants to know the truth of the saving work of Jesus Christ so that they can grow in love with him and come to the place where they desire nothing but to do his will in their life. For non-Catholics that means helping them to embrace the fullness of the Christian faith by entering Christ’s Mystical body; his One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. For Catholics that means helping them to finish what God began in their baptism, when they were born again of water and the Spirit, by completion of the sacraments of initiation.

We invite all adults who are curious and have questions to journey with us, one gathering at a time. We’ll do our best to welcome and serve you as we strive to grow in our knowledge of Jesus Christ, exploring who we are, where we are going and how we are going to get there. RCIA is an opportunity to come together with a community of adults to grow in faith, and prayerfully consider God’s timing in discerning decisions to become Catholic or receive Sacraments.

Are you interested in becoming Catholic and receiving Sacraments?
Do you have questions about the Catholic faith?
Are you concerned about making a time commitment to get those answers?
Are you wondering if the Catholic Church will accept you?

What is RCIC?

RCIC stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Children. This is a process for youth by which one is received into the Catholic Church (non-Catholics) or completes the sacraments of initiation (Catholics) through faith development focusing on prayer, sacraments, and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Who should participate in RCIC?

Non-Catholics

As a non-Catholic, there are three main things that determine whether or not you should participate in RCIC

  • Want to become Catholic
  • Aged 7-17
  • Never baptized (or are baptized, but not in the Catholic Church)

Catholics

As a Catholic, there are three main things that determine whether or not you should participate in RCIC

  • Baptized Catholic

What is RCIA?

RCIA is available to adults who have not been baptized or who were baptized in a non-Catholic church or community. The program is also available for those who were baptized Catholic, but have not received First Reconciliation, First Communion or been confirmed. We encourage you to begin this journey with an open heart and mind, allowing God to be your guide.  The decision to become Catholic and receive Sacraments will be yours to make, without pressure or expectations.

What is the process?

The process for adults to become Catholic and receive Sacraments begins when you are ready to take the first step, a conversation to get acquainted.  We are interested in learning a little bit about you, and how we can be of help in explaining the RCIA process and answering your questions.  Then, when you are ready, we will help you create a faith formation plan to guide you in a journey toward sacraments.  As we move forward on that path together we will explore the Christian faith and how Catholics live it.  We will experience and learn about the Mass, and delve into and reflect on scripture.  We will provide opportunities to grow in understanding prayer and learn about the sacramental life, as we strive for a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

Are you interested in becoming a Sponsor, but unsure if you ‘know’ enough?

Don’t worry, you do not need to be a theologian to be a sponsor. You just need to have the heart to accompany someone on his or her journey into the Catholic Church.
