Ember Days are special occasions observed in the Catholic Church that occur four times a year, marking the changing of the seasons. Traditionally, these days are set aside for prayer, penance, and fasting to sanctify the new season and seek God’s blessing on the fruits of the earth and human labor. Ember Days are rooted in the early centuries of the Church and reflect a rhythm of spiritual renewal and gratitude throughout the year.

The Catholic Church practices Ember Days to encourage the faithful to pause, pray, and undertake acts of penance and self-discipline. These observances foster a deeper sense of dependence on God, encourage personal conversion, and unite the community in seeking God’s grace for the world.

This year, our schedule for Ember Days includes:

  • Prayer, Penance & Fasting on Wednesday, December 17; Friday, December 19; and Saturday, December 20.
  • Added Confession Time at 11 am before the Noon Mass on December 17 and December 19, to help everyone prepare spiritually.

All are encouraged to participate in these ancient and meaningful practices as we seek spiritual growth and renewal together.
