During the last 4 months of pandemic we have been called to renew our faith and strengthen our families. The Holy Father has reminded us that the strength of our faith depends on the family, the “domestic church”. The Catechism teaches us that the parents are the primary educators of the faith and the role of the church is to assist them on this journey. In this time of pandemic, the Archdiocese of Atlanta has called us to re-focus our faith formation program and be family centered.
For the 2020-2021 Faith Formation year, Mary Our Queen’s plan is to follow a “Family Table” model. Our program encompasses the entire family from Pre-K to adulthood with a choice to register for either an At-Home or Hybrid model to suit the needs of your family in light of COVID 19 restrictions.
Per the Archdiocese of Atlanta guidelines, we will follow the Gwinnett County School System’s decision for online classes only and begin the Faith Formation year by only offering the At Home “Family Table” model of Faith Formation. If conditions change, we will open the Hybrid model at that time.
For Registration Purposes, Please Register for the Model best for your family knowing that if you chose the Hybrid Model, you will start the year At-Home until Gwinnett County schools re-open for In-Person classes.
FAITH FORMATION OPTIONS (Additional Details of each option can be found under each tab in Faith Formation.)
Option One: A Hybrid model of Faith Formation (you may register for this option knowing that for now, all classes are At Home until the school system allows In Person classes) Families will have approximately two in person classes a month and two home study family dinner table lessons a month. In person classes will alternate every other week and require social distancing and masks at this time. All In-Person classes will be on Sunday mornings from 9:45 am-10:45 am giving families the opportunity to attend Mass either before class at 8:30 am or after class at 11:00 am or 5 pm.
Option Two: An At-Home Family Catechesis program that is taught entirely at home (no in-person classes). The foundation of the program is the Sunday Gospel and the family dinner table. Families will be guided through reading, sharing and reflecting on the Sunday Gospel and what it teaches us about the Catholic faith.
Both models will be supported by the Faith Formation office and all age appropriate material to be discussed around the family dinner table will be provided:
- Pre-K through 8th grade: Gospel Weeklie by Pflaum Publishing:
- High School: Lectio Divina model with material supplied to study the Gospel
Families will read the Gospel together, discuss what you are hearing and reflect on the teaching of the Catholic faith through scripture. A second age appropriate catechism book will also be supplied. Each week, families will complete an online weekly assessment tool and submit to the Faith Formation Office to show participation.
